Jay Kablan, an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) student at Cabarrus College, is a busy man. In addition to being enrolled in the rigorous ADN program, he is the president of the Student Government Association; serves as a Guided Study Session (GSS) Leader; is an offensive line coach for the Concord High School Spiders Football team; and to top it off, he got married last year.

Jay's leadership ability was immediately recognized by his fellow students, who elected him President of the Student Government Association for 2010-11. As SGA president, he serves as the voice for the student body, sharing the feedback he receives from students with the administration of the College.

Working as a GSS leader has given him the opportunity to help other students in microbiology, chemistry, and Fundamentals of Nursing classes over the past couple of semesters. Students who participate in the study sessions have the benefit of learning the course material from another student's perspective. "I enjoy working with students and sharing what I have learned," states Kablan.

Jay is a 1999 graduate of Concord High School, where he played left tackle on the Spider's football team. He now coaches the offensive line, and works with the team at least four hours each weekday during the season.

Not surprisingly, Jay already has his sights on additional goals after he graduates in December 2011. He wants to work in the ER, then pursue a degree as a physician's assistant.
