Activities and Events

New Student Orientation
The New Student Orientation Program is designed to welcome you and provide you with a working knowledge of campus resources, policies, rights, and responsibilities which will prepare you to function with competence as a new student. Orientation is mandatory for all new students.

Fall and Spring Orientation

Orientation for fall and spring occurs the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday prior to the first official day of class (view the academic calendar here). Exciting opportunities to learn academic resources, make new friends and meet your advisor are part of the experience. All associate in science and diploma level students are required to attend two days and baccalaureate and certificate level students attend one day. All associate in science level students are required to attend two days and baccalaureate level students attend one day. Assigned days are determined by the number of students in each program and include program specific and general college topics.

Summer Orientation

Orientation for non-degree summer students is held on the Thursday afternoon preceding the first day of class. Many of our clinical programs also offer program-specific orientation activities during the summer months for students entering in the fall. Details are sent out by each program.

Freshman Adventure

Each summer, Cabarrus College hosts Freshman Adventure, a unique week long learning experience designed to help you learn more about Cabarrus College, academic resources, learning styles, and you. Participants will interact with dedicated staff and peers to experience the college setting before enrollment. You will learn more about our college environment, including the Information Resource Center (IRC), computer lab, fitness center and hospital in general. You also will learn skills in reading, memory, note taking, testing, relaxation and more. We encourage you to take full advantage of this pre-college experience as together we look at serious matters yet approach them with fun and enthusiasm, in a way that will make a lasting impression while fostering your growth in areas of responsibility, independence and self-esteem.

Convocation
Convocation ceremonies are held twice a year at the conclusion of fall and spring orientation activities. Led by students, College officials, and faculty, Convocation marks the beginning of your Cabarrus College experience. Pledge your dedication to the College's core values of caring, commitment, teamwork and integrity. Learn how you will gain the knowledge and skills toward becoming a culturally competent healthcare provider. Join us as we celebrate your new beginnings.

Throughout the year, Student Affairs offers various programs, services, and activities which respond to the changing needs, interests, and greater welfare of our students.

Commencement
Spring and winter commencements are held to celebrate students' successful program completion. You must complete the intent to graduate form during the registration period prior to the semester of commencement. This form alerts Student Affairs to contact you about completion requirements, cap and gown orders, and other graduation related information.

Recognition of Academic Achievement - Degree students achieving an overall final cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher are recognized with notation on the graduation program and on the academic transcript as graduating:

-	Cum laude for achieving a final cumulative GPA of 3.20 - 3.59
-	Magna cum laude for achieving a final cumulative GPA of 3.60 - 3.89
-	Summa cum laude for achieving a final cumulative GPA of 3.90 - 4.00
