How do I register for classes?
To register for classes, current students must meet with their
academic advisor and register through
SonisWeb during
the published registration periods on the academic calendar.
Specific registration instructions are provided to students by their advisors at the time of registration.
Students must meet with their academic advisors prior to registering in order to have the hold removed in
SonisWeb.
How will I receive my registration information?
New and returning students will receive their registration information via email.
If I need a course and I am unable to register for it because it is full, what should I
do?
If a class is full, students should add themselves to the waiting list for the course, (see registration
instructions on SonisWeb).
This waiting list allows Cabarrus College to monitor the need for the class and helps determine if an additional
course section needs to be opened.
May I enroll in a course that requires a prerequisite if I have not taken the prerequisite?
Students generally may not enroll in a course that requires a prerequisite if they have not taken the
prerequisite. There are limited circumstances where prerequisites may be waived with approval from the
Program Chair, Registrar or Provost.
Can I drop a course after the Drop/Add period?
Yes, but if a student drops a course after the official Drop/Add period, (see
Academic Calendar) the student will receive a grade of "W"
(withdrawal) or "WF" (withdrawal failing).
What happens if I am registered but decide to withdraw from a course after the end of
the Drop/Add period?
Withdrawing from a course after the official Drop/Add period will result in grades of "W"
(Withdrawal) or "WF" (Withdrawal Failure). Check
the Academic Calendar for withdrawal period deadlines. It is the
student's responsibility to officially withdraw from a course by completing a
Drop/Add Form. Note that
withdrawing from courses may affect a student's financial aid package and the student is responsible for
paying the balance.
How do I withdraw from Cabarrus College after the end of the Drop/Add period?
A student must complete a Withdrawal Form and submit it to the Registrar's Office after obtaining all required
signatures on the form.
How can I obtain a copy of my grades?
Students can access their grades via SonisWeb.
If I register for a course but never attend class, how will that affect my GPA?
Students who never attend a class will be removed from the roster which will have no effect on their GPA.
To be eligible for a refund, students need to submit the Drop/Add Form by the deadline. For more information
on refunds, see the Refund Policy in the catalog.
Who evaluates transfer credits?
Transfer credits are evaluated by the Registrar's Office.
Will my transfer credits count toward my GPA at Cabarrus College?
No. Credit taken at other schools will not count towards your GPA at Cabarrus College. Grades earned at other
institutions will only count as credit towards the completion of your degree.
Are there time limits on what courses will transfer?
Yes. Starting with the class that entered Cabarrus College in the fall of 2010, life science courses for associate
degree and diploma seeking students will have a five-year time limit from the date of enrollment. Life science
courses completed before the fall of 2005 will need to be repeated. The transfer time limit applies to General Biology
I & II, Nutrition, Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, Microbiology, Cell Biology, General
Genetics, Chemistry I, and Chemistry II.
Computer technology courses over four years old from the date of enrollment into Cabarrus College will not be
awarded transfer credit.
How do I apply for graduation?
To graduate, students need to complete the Intent to Graduate form during the published registration period the semester prior to
graduation.
How do I know that I have completed all degree requirements for graduation?
Students are responsible for the completion of their academic program based upon the requirements stated in the
college catalog. An academic advisor is available to assist, but the responsibility to
ensure that all degree completion requirements have been met remains with the student. Students should always
see their academic advisor and check their curriculum plan before making course selections for the following term.
What is a degree audit?
A degree audit is the process used to determine if all Cabarrus College degree requirements have been met so that
the student can be eligible for graduation.
How can I perform a degree audit?
Students can perform a degree audit through SonisWeb. Refer to the "Running and Interpreting a Degree Audit Reports for Students"
document available on the SonisWeb documents page.
How can I graduate with Honors?
Degree and diploma candidates whose scholastic performance reflects high achievement in all their college courses
may graduate with distinction designated as: Summa Cum Laude - Grade Point Average of 3.90 or above Magna Cum Laude - Grade Point Average of 3.60 through 3.89 Cum Laude - Grade Point Average of 3.20 through 3.59
How do I receive my diploma?
Diplomas will be presented to graduates during their graduation ceremony. Graduates not attending the graduation
ceremony may pick up their diplomas the day after the graduation ceremony in the Student Support Center (Office
133). Diplomas are not mailed to graduates.
How do I request a transcript?
All transcript requests must be in writing. After receipt of the written, signed, and dated request and provided
the student is not indebted to Cabarrus College, the transcript will be placed in the mail in approximately three
working days. Processing of transcript requests at the end of a semester may take longer due to increased
volume.

How do I pay for a transcript?
Transcripts must be paid for in advance before they can be released. This charge may be paid with a credit
card or by mailing a check or money order to the address listed above. If a student has any financial obligations
to the college, the balance must be paid in full before an official transcript will be printed.
Can a parent request a transcript for his or her child?
No. Transcripts will not be released to anyone except the owner of the record unless officially requested in
writing by the student. Photo identification is required to pick up a transcript.
Can I request a transcript if I have a financial hold on my record?
No. Transcripts will not be released if the student is financially obligated to the College.
Is my transcript official if it is faxed?
No. Fax transcripts are considered copies by most college and universities. Official copies are usually
mailed.
If I have repeated a course and earned a higher grade, will the lower grade remain on my
transcript?
Yes. All failures, repeated courses, and withdrawals will be shown on transcripts.
Will detailed work from other colleges show up on my Cabarrus College transcript?
No. Transcripts will show work completed at Cabarrus College only. However, if a student has transfer/transient
hours from another college, those will appear on the transcript as transfer credits, but will not compute in the
college GPA.
What is the purpose of the Verification of Enrollment Letter?
Often companies (such as insurance agencies) request proof of a student's current enrollment. A Verification
of Enrollment letter is an official document of a student's current enrollment status that can be sent to these
external agencies.
How do I request a Verification of Enrollment Letter?
Verification of enrollment letters can be obtained by contacting the Registrar's
Office.
Can Cabarrus College fax Verification of Enrollment Letters?
Yes. Verification of enrollment letters can be mailed, faxed, or picked up in the Student Support Center
(Office 133). There is no charge to pick up or mail a verification of enrollment letter.
How do I change my phone number or address?
Students can update their phone numbers and mailing addresses in
SonisWeb by clicking on the
"Update Bio" icon.
How do I change my name?
Name changes will be made only when the student provides a copy of a Marriage Certificate or Court-Ordered
Name Change/Divorce Decree to the Registrar's Office located in the Student Support Center (Office 133).
How do I change my major?
To request a change of major, students should plan to attend the change of major meeting held each semester.
The meeting will be announced via email and provides an opportunity to hear from representatives from the departments
and obtain the necessary forms.
How does Cabarrus College define full-time and part-time status?
Full-time status is applied to any student who is registered for twelve or more credit hours. Any student who
is registered for eleven hours or less is considered part-time.
How many credit hours must I earn to be classified as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or
senior?
Classification of students is based on the total number of semester credits earned and transfer credits
accepted: Freshman - 29 semester hour credits or less Sophomore - 30 semester hour credits Junior - 60 semester hour credits Senior - 90 semester hour credits or more
